Not Sure? Wellness coaching is a helpful option for students who are generally doing well and are experiencing the natural ups and downs of life. These students may not feel they need therapy but recognize they could benefit from working with someone to move toward their goals and support their overall well‑being. If you’re unsure whether wellness coaching is right for you, we encourage you to schedule an appointment so you and a wellness coach can explore this together.

Wellness Coaching Isn't Therapy

Wellness coaching supports lasting behavior change, but it is not therapy. Wellness coaches do not diagnose or treat mental illnesses such as anxiety or depression. Students who are living with a managed mental illness are welcome to try make an appointment, with the understanding that wellness coaching complements—but does not replace—therapy.

If you are seeking help with anxiety, depression, and/or other mental illnesses, we recommend that you make an appointment with Psychological and Counseling Services (PACS) or a Health & Wellness Health & Wellness Clinician

Wellness Coaching Classes & Groups

Group wellness coaching helps students recognize they are not alone in their challenges or successes while making meaningful changes that support their well‑being. Sessions are facilitated by a board‑certified health and wellness coach or a trained well‑being intern.

LAP 501: Living with Authenticity & Purpose Course, 2 credits

LAP 501 is a Lifetime Activity Program (LAP) course offered by Living Well Services in collaboration with the Departments of Recreation Management & Policy, Kinesiology, and the Hamel Recreation Center. This two‑credit course is rooted in the same philosophy and structure as wellness coaching but offered in a classroom setting. The course is offered during each semester, meets for 6-8 weeks, and earns 2 credits. Refer to the  for registration information.

Wellness Coaching Workshops

Wellness coaching workshops are designed for students who are curious about wellness coaching and want to be in a community of peers as they take small meaningful steps to enhance their well-being. Each session offers opportunities to connect with peers, make friends, and enhance your well-being. Visit our events page to register for the next workshop.

Wellness Coaching Weekly Group

This 6‑week group offers a supportive space with your peers to enhance your well‑being. Each session builds on the last, creating a cohesive program designed to foster a sense of ease, confidence, connection. To support a strong group experience and maximize learning, students are encouraged to register only if they can attend most or all sessions. Visit our events page to register for the next group.

Wellness Workshops

Wellness workshops are available by request for the UNH community. Faculty may also request a workshop through our Don’t Cancel that Class initiative. Each session is grounded in a wellness coaching framework and helps participants build self-awareness, knowledge, and skills for lasting behavior change.

Although we offer several workshops, these are most popular:

  • The Meaning of Wellness: Caring for your whole self
  • The Meaning of Stress: Befriending yourself and your stress response

I spent a lot of time applying what we learned in the classroom into my everyday life. When I was feeling very stressed or overwhelmed or having a bad mental health day, I would always think about the strategies we learned, and they honestly really helped me get through those tough times.  â€“ UNH Student
