As the academic year begins, we are also entering a midterm election season, with important races at the state and federal level. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
As a university committed to educating and developing civically engaged students, we encourage eligible students to make a plan to vote, whether in New Hampshire or in their home state. If you are unsure about voter eligibility, registration requirements, required documentation, or where you plan to vote, please visit for more information. New Hampshire voter registration requirements have changed recently, so students planning to register or vote in New Hampshire should review the guidance carefully and come prepared with the documents they need.
New Hampshire often attracts considerable attention during election season, and as Election Day approaches, we can expect increased political activity on and around campus. This can be energizing and meaningful. It can also bring heightened debate, disagreement, and tension.
We encourage all students to engage constructively across disagreement, ask thoughtful questions, and participate in civic life in ways that reflect both your rights and your responsibilities as members of the UNH community.
Students often ask about expressive activity, demonstrations, political events, and the University’s role when public officials, candidates, campaigns, or advocacy groups come to campus. To support those questions, has developed frequently asked questions and resources related to engaging across different viewpoints. Students are encouraged to review those resources and to review for more details.
As a public university, UNH’s policies reflect constitutional principles and our responsibility to support lawful expression while maintaining safety, access, and the normal operations of the University. More importantly, these policies are an invitation to practice critical inquiry, self-reflection, and productive discourse.
