After transferring to UNH as a second-semester sophomore, Mackey played soccer for a season, but soon found himself being drawn to wilderness pursuits.

Five states (Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia) have added almost six million domestic migrants since 2000.
