Welcome to UNH!

We look forward to meeting you on campus and are excited that you are joining the UNH community! Transfer students who are required to or interested in living on campus must complete a housing application for the term in which they are starting at UNH. Continue reviewing information on this page for important details and instructions.

Do you have a housing requirement?

New transfer students, who are under the age of 21, have an on-campus housing requirement at UNH. Transfer students may or may not have experience living on campus at another institution of higher education that can apply towards their UNH housing requirement. Please review the different scenarios below to determine which applies to you.

If you are 21 years of age or will be 21 years of age by the first day of the semester in which you start at UNH: You do not have a housing requirement. Students without a housing requirement are welcome to live on campus and can submit a housing application for assignment.

Has Housing Requirement

Transfer students in the following situations are required to live on campus at UNH until they turn 21 years of age or have reached four semesters of on-campus housing (including semesters at a previous institution).

  • If you have not lived in on-campus housing at a previous institution of higher education
  • If you lived in on-campus housing at a previous institution for one, two or three semesters

Students who meet either of the situations above are required to live on campus and need to either submit a housing application or request an exemption to the housing requirement.

Does Not Have Housing Requirement

Transfer students who have lived on campus at a previous institution of housing education for four semesters do not have a housing requirement with UNH. However, UNH does not receive record of previous housing and transfer students under the age of 21 will by default be identified in our system as having a housing requirement. Transfer students in this situation need to complete a housing requirement exemption request to notify us of their previous experience and request to have their housing requirement recorded as complete.

Students who do not have a housing requirement are welcome to live on campus if they are interested in doing so. Simply complete the housing application (instructions below) in the Housing Portal.
