The Marshall Scholarship funds high-achieving American students to pursue graduate degrees in the United Kingdom. Up to forty Scholars are selected each year to study at a U.K. institution in any field of study.

Value: University fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, fares to and from the United States and, where applicable, a contribution towards the support of a dependent spouse.
Eligibility: Be citizens of the United States of America (at the time they apply for a scholarship); (By the time they take up their scholarship i.e. September 2026) hold their first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States; Have obtained a grade point average of not less than 3.7 on their undergraduate degree at the time of application. Have graduated from their first undergraduate college or university after April 2023; Not have studied for, or hold a degree or degree-equivalent qualification from a British University or GCSE or A Levels taken at school in the UK.

Marshall Recommended Steps and Timeline
- By June 1: Complete . Note you should have identified a university and department for proposed study in the UK (or two!). Look beyond OxBridge – this can change after you complete your intent to apply. To find a program: explore the or attend to learn about institutions in the UK. We will schedule a meeting to discuss your intent to apply.
- By June 8: Review . Reach out to relevant faculty at UK institution(s)
- By June 15: Complete first draft of “UK University/Course Selections”, “About You” Section & “Additional application information” sections & send to Office of National Fellowships for feedback (national.fellowships@unh.edu)
- By June 29: Complete first draft of “Assessed application answers”
- By July 13: Complete second draft of all sections.
- By July 20: Inform Office of National Fellowships of the names and email addresses of your recommenders. Must send first draft of all materials by this date to be considered for nomination
- By July 27: Send third draft of essays to Office of National Fellowships.
- By August 3: (1) Complete & (2) Complete FERPA form and send to Office of National Fellowships (national.fellowships@unh.edu) to request a copy of your transcript.
