Data shows that the number of New Hampshire-licensed child-care providers has grown 17 percent since the start of the pandemic. However, according to Carsey School research assistant professor Jess Carson, that growth in numbers likely isn鈥檛 a true reflection of child care availability as it doesn鈥檛 reflect staff shortages or other issues preventing providers from filling all their spots.

UNH is leading $26.8 million preschool development grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services鈥� Administration for Children and Families, to support guided play concepts by providing personalized, one-on-one coaching to early childhood teachers throughout New Hampshire. It鈥檚 one of many initiatives contained in the grant, which runs through 2022.

In the previous decade, the number of Americans who live alone has jumped 4 million to 37 million one-person U.S. households in 2021 - representing 28 percent of all households across the country and 15 percent of the total U.S. population. From a field of 84 college students from across the state, nine teams have been selected to advance to the final round of the 2021 New Hampshire Social Venture Innovation Challenge, hosted by the UNH Changemaker Collaborative and Sustainability Institute.
