In the previous decade, the number of Americans who live alone has jumped 4 million to 37 million one-person U.S. households in 2021 - representing 28 percent of all households across the country and 15 percent of the total U.S. population. The Hill interviewed Carsey School Senior Demographer Ken Johnson, who reflected on the change in social attitudes of families and children and the impact this has had on the growth of one-person households.
