SAARA at the 2026 NASW New Hampshire Conference
SAARA’s Assistant Director, Dr. Tanya Rouleau Whitworth, presented “Unique Considerations When Children and Adolescents Sexually Harm Siblings,†co-authored with Dr. Corinna Jenkins Tucker, at the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) New Hampshire conference on May 19, 2026. NASW is the largest professional organization of social workers in the world. This conference brought together social workers from across New Hampshire and neighboring states.
Approximately 45 social workers attended the presentation. Over the course of two hours, Dr. Whitworth provided an overview of current research on sibling sexual abuse (SSA), including prevalence, demographic variation, associated family dynamics, and impacts. She also explained what makes SSA unique compared to other forms of child sexual abuse and covered best practices for intervention.
It was wonderful to present to this engaged audience of social workers, who will hopefully take the lead in raising awareness on SSA within their profession. A lot of work remains to train professionals, develop resources, and establish response protocols. SAARA is here to support and train professionals in diverse fields, including social work.
