Artist's Statement

My work is a reflection of my interest in folk and primitive art, and greatly influenced by my background in graphics design. Specifically my experience with poster art, book cover design, and packaging graphics. I refer to my paintings as "designs".

I often incorporate the use of vintage materials and repurpose them to compliment the paintings and framing.

An art critic described my work in the following manner:

"Zerba paints the shapes of barn frames on what look like barn boards. The muted colors and flattened compositions have the feel of folk art, but Zerba uses a sophisticated palette and a strong feel for the shape and texture of the architecture he's depicting to render work that reaches beyond the naivete' that characterizes most folk art." - Alex Hanson

Also:

"An interesting, harmonious combination of repurposed equipment and tools fuses primitive and elegant, thereby elevating 'folk' art."
