Elisabeth “El” Farrell is Associate Director of Culture and Operations at the �鶹app Sustainability Institute, where she has worked for more than two decades advancing sustainability through strategic leadership, organizational development, and innovative programs. As a member of the Institute’s leadership team, she guides organizational strategy and operations, supports staff engagement and a collaborative workplace culture, and partners with colleagues across the university to advance the Institute’s mission and priorities.

Throughout her career at UNH, El has helped develop and deliver initiatives spanning sustainable food systems, climate and energy, biodiversity, and culture and sustainability. She leads the Sustainability Ambassadors initiative, which engages faculty and staff in sustainability across the university, and oversees student programs including the Changemaker Fellowship and Sustainability Advocates. Her work also encompasses interdisciplinary academic initiatives, research symposia, and regional sustainability networks. She contributed to the development of UNH’s ecogastronomy and sustainability dual majors and The Sustainable Learning Community: One University’s Journey to the Future (2009).

El holds a Master of Public Administration and a graduate certificate in Sustainability Politics and Policy from the �鶹app, an MFA in Writing and Literature from Bennington College, and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from UNH. She is also the author of Earlier Heaven, a collection of poems published by Finishing Line Press in 2018.
