MAJ Bob Matzelle enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 2011 as a Simultaneous Membership Program Cadet while attending the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. He commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2014 and served in airborne and ranger formations as a Fire Support Officer.

Following his active service, MAJ Matzelle transitioned to the Vermont Army National Guard where he served at the Army Mountain Warfare School as a traditional guardsman while serving in law enforcement full-time. After several years, MAJ Matzelle returned to active service with the New Hampshire Army National Guard where he currently serves as the Assistant Professor of Military Science.
