The overarching aim of my research is to assess the conservation value of marine protected areas (MPAs), with a particular focus on their role in mitigating climate change and their susceptibility to global environmental changes, including anthropogenic impacts. Specifically, my research examines the carbon sequestration and storage potential of marine and coastal ecosystems, the effects of marine ! heatwaves, and the vulnerability of species, ecosystems, and their ecological functions to climate change, using the Galápagos Islands as a case study.
