Doing It All

Dylan Wheeler ’20 has been described as a person who lives in a universe with 28-hour days. Here’s why: he’s founded two startups and he hasn’t even graduated yet. He launched the first one during his freshman year, and it has helped pay his way through UNH. He also has his own website.

Admitted Student Day Goes Virtual

Jenni Cook, associate dean of the , likens it to a performance. A half-hour prior to going live, there’s a mic check and a chance for everyone to get comfortable with the format.

Seasonal Vacation Spots Slowly Becoming COVID-19 Hot Spots

Reseach published by Jessica Carson, an assistant research professor at the Carsey School, found that in the nation'sĚý199 rural countiesĚýwhere seasonal housing accounts for 25% or more of all housing units,Ěýthe average number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people is more than twice as high as in other rural counties. In efforts to discourage snowbirds and out-of-staters from flocking to their second homes in these counties, states have closed some public recreations sites, as well as public facilities and parking lots.Ěý

Researchers Call for Equity in COVID-19 Responses

Kenneth Johnson, senior demographer at the Carsey School, believes that state and federal responses to the ongoing pandemic should take vulnerable rural populations into considerations. Johnson recently published a brief which found that more than 26% of the non-metropolitan population is over the age of 60. In addition to being of an older age, the study found thatĚýrural Americans have higher incidences of underlying health conditions that may put them at a greater risk of complications from COVID-19.
