Bringing the History of UNH's President’s House to Life

Shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak struck in the spring of 2020, Jan Dean found herself staring at a dining room table covered in a sea of tiny puzzle pieces.

With the world locked down and her husband, UNH President Jim Dean, navigating the uncharted waters of figuring out how to guide a university through a global pandemic, spending hours building 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles proved an ideal escape.

“We were just desperate to have something to think about besides what was going on in the world at the time,†Dean says.

Five Graduate Students, Alumni Receive NSF Graduate Research Fellowships

Three UNH graduate students and two alumni received prestigious from the National Science Foundation. Awarded to students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support, with an annual stipend and tuitionÌıallowance.ÌıCurrent student recipients are master’s students Alexis Eaton and Callyan Lacio and Ph.D. student Else Schlerman.

“Nursing is both an art and a science,†declares Pamela Kallmerten, program director of the online clinical nurse leader and evidence-based nursing programs at UNH.

The science of her nursing career is evidenced by Kallmerten’s extensive work experience, encompassing critical and emergency care, cardiac and surgical intensive care, occupational health and school nursing. The art of her work becomes apparent when Kallmerten discusses her role as an educator and mentor for students.
