The Lowell Sun recently wrote about U.S. Census Bureau data showing that New Hampshire is one of two (the other being Maine) states in New England experiencing population growth in the last year. The editorial mentions Carsey School of Public Policy Senior Demographer Ken Johnson's research into this population growth trend and suggests some reasons for why the Granite State is attracting people – especially young people – from Massachusetts and other New England states.
The AP News cited research from Carsey School of Public Policy Senior Demographer Ken Johnson in which Johnson found, based on 2020 Census data, that Maine and New Hampshire were the only New England states to gain population during each of the past four years, with New Hampshire seeing the largest percentage increase for the third year in a row. However, the overall growth for New Hampshire from 2019 to 2020 was small – about 5,500 people.
Members of the New Hampshire School Funding Study Commission wrote about the findings of their Ìýand how it offers a more equitable solution to financing public school education in New Hampshire when compared with the current system. The Commission is being supported in this work by the Carsey School of Public Policy.
