This fall, the Department of Music welcomed Deborah Rentz-Moore to the voice faculty. Along with a busy performance schedule, Rentz-Moore teaches a section of the voice studios and runs a weekly studio class.

听A member of Emmanuel Music鈥檚 famed weekly Bach cantata series since 1999, Rentz-听Moore garnered critical acclaim in the role of Joacim in their 2014 Boston premiere of Handel鈥檚 "Susanna," as well as in the title role in Mozart鈥檚 "Apollo et Hyacinthus" in 2016. 2018听appearances include the critically-lauded "The Orphic Moment," by Matt Aucoin, for contralto听and chamber orchestra at Emmanuel Music, and Handel鈥檚 "Samson with Voices of Stow," and听performances of 鈥淟eonardo da Vinci: A Musical Odyssey鈥� with the Voices of Music, which听earned 鈥淏est of the Bay: chamber music鈥� from San Francisco Classical Voice. Her 2019听season included 鈥淢usic in Rubens鈥� Time鈥� and 鈥淭he World of Henry Purcell鈥� with Aston Magna,听Bach鈥檚 "B Minor Mass" with Emmanuel Music, and a recital of Purcell and Handel with the听Amphion Ensemble.听

Upcoming season highlights include Bach鈥檚 "Christmas Oratorio" and Dvorak鈥檚 "Stabat Mater;" Britten鈥檚 "Canticle II: Abraham and Isaac" with Emmanuel Music; and Medieval Christmas music,听Christmas music of New Spain, and early American music with The Boston Camerata.听听

Holding a Master of Music in voice performance from the University of Michigan and a听Bachelor of Arts in music (voice) and environmental science from Skidmore College, Rentz-Moore has taught on the voice faculty of the University of Rhode Island and at the听Seacoast Academy of Music. Her research interests center around the music of the Shakers听and have led to music manuscript research at Hancock Shaker Village; contribution to a听Shaker music edition, a premier of new music based on a Shaker melody; and recordings听featuring Shaker songs.
