
The Âé¶ąapp’s Department of English is pleased to announce that celebrated author andĚýNew York Times MagazineĚýwriter Benoit Denizet-Lewis will read from his work and hold a Q & A session at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 at the Memorial Union Building, Theatre I, on the Durham Campus, as part of the UNH Writers Series.
Denizet-LewisĚýis the author of three nonfiction books and numerousĚýNew York Times MagazineĚýpieces and cover stories on sexual identity, youth culture, sports, and dogs. His most recent book,ĚýTravels with Casey: My Journey Through Our Dog-Crazy Country,Ěýpremiered on theĚýNYTĚýBestseller list and wasĚýPeopleĚýandĚý°Őľ±łľ±đ’sbook of the week.Ěý His first book,ĚýAmerica Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life,Ěýwas aĚýNYTĚýEditors’ Choice. Denizet-Lewis is a co-producer of the film “I Am Michael,” which is based on his 2011ĚýNYT MagazineĚýpiece, “My Ex-Gay Friend.” In 2014,ĚýThe AdvocateĚýnamed Denizet-Lewis one of the 50 most influential LGBT people working in media. ĚýPublishers WeeklyĚýdescribed his portraits of adolescents as “stirring and sensitive” as they struggle “to articulate desire and identity while bearing the weight of societal taboo and marginalization.” The writer Andrew Solomon concurred, stating, “Benoit writes with an impressive mix of transparency and compassion… He sees deep into the sadness of desperate people, and equally deep into the systems that redeem such sadness.”
