Sentinel Source: Census: Cheshire County at a loss

The Keene Sentinel Source recently reported on 2020 U.S. Census data that shows that the population in New Hampshire's Cheshire County decreased over the last decade. The Source noted, in an interview with the Carsey School's Ken Johnson, that the state's more urbanized counties grew in population, partly from migration. However, several more rural counties – Cheshire among them – saw population descreases from people moving out of them and from natural decreases (more births than deaths).

Valley News: Census data shows outward spread in Upper Valley population

The Valley News in West Lebanon, NH, recently reported on 2020 U.S. Census data showing an outward spread of the population in the New Hampshire-Vermont Upper Valley area. Ken Johnson, Senior Demographer at the Carsey School, noted in an interview in the Valley News that the population growth in the region "shouldn't be surprising given howÌýgiven how Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth College are magnets for employees, many of them young and from elsewhere."

The Newport Daily News: What Does the 2020 Census Say About New England? The Region is More Populated, Diverse.

Ken Johnson, a Senior Demographer with the Carsey School, was recently mentioned in The Newport Daily News regarding his research on the 2020 Census results. New Hampshire saw an increase in Black, Asian, and Hispanic/Latino residence on the Seacoast, and the state owes this population growth to immigration from other countries and migration from other states, Johnson explained.Ìý
