Learning happens as much outside the classroom as inside it.

UNH offers hundreds of high-impact learning experiences that can count for Honors Units. Below is just a sampling of some cocurricular learning experiences the Honors College offers its students. Have a different idea? Submit a proposal via the Honors College Portal.

Study Abroad


6 Honors Units (7 with language immersion)

Where do you want to go? Spend a semester learning and living outside the US. Study abroad offers the chance to immerse yourself in another culture and learn the functions of their everyday life beyond just a vacation. You will interact with locals, meet others from all around the US, and have unique opportunities.

Writing Center Assistant


4 Units (for a full semester)

Students with excellent writing skills may be selected to help their fellow students through the Connors Writing Center. The Writing Assistantship includes a course on teaching methods as well as paid work in the Writing Center.

B-Impact Clinic


2 Units

Students from ALL majors serve as consultants and gain hands-on experience serving as consultants for regional companies that are working to assess their social and environmental impacts. Supported by UNH faculty and experienced peer mentors, you'll be matched with a team of peers and a client company to help them work through the B Impact Assessment.

2 Units

Work with other students under a faculty member on a year-long research experience culminating in a presentation of your findings at the Undergraduate Research Conference. Only available to first-year students.

Teaching Assistantships


Variable Units

Many courses at UNH engage high-performing students to help younger peers. Taking part in Peer-Led Team Learning and other supervised teaching experiences can earn you credit or pay, as well as Honors Units.

2 Units

Learn about civil discourse and promote public dialogue by connecting research to social/civic policy and ethics. Take this class to learn about public engagement processes framed through a dialogic ethic that fosters relationships based on honesty, respect, reciprocity, humility, and trust.

Earn 16 UNH credits while spending a semester in Boston in a rigorous 30+ hour per week internship with a leading social change organization.

Student Mentorships


Variable Units

Some majors offer the opportunity for upperclassmen to mentor new students in order to create a network of support for them and help them start their journey at UNH.

The Washington Center


4 Units

The Washington Center offers internships and seminars in Washington DC, home to hundreds of government agencies, multi-national corporations, non-profit organizations, think tanks, advocacy groups, law firms, and more.
